Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for nippling-up and pressure testing
  2. Perform nippling up
  3. Perform pressure test

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

works effectively with others to undertake and complete well servicing nippling up and pressure testing that meets all of the required outcomes including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements throughout work activities

demonstrates completion of participating in well servicing nippling-up and pressure test that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

inspecting and adjusting equipment pressure ratings

carrying out nippling up of Blowout Prevention (BOP)

performing Blowout Prevention (BOP) and pressure testing

carrying out rig-up to drill out operations

processing written records and reports

Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when participating in well servicing nippling-up and pressure testing:

accessing, interpreting and applying the organisation and site requirements and procedures

carrying out high pressure lines requiring pressure testing

knowledge and use of test equipment

testing equipment and procedures

rig maintenance procedures

identifying and managing surface production equipment

well head identification – pressures

well head identification – type (seal pockets, down hole gauges, stuffing boxes, DSA flanges)

re-pressure testing

manage and monitor nippling up and pressure testing within a team environment

identifying well head pressure ratings

pressure recording equipment operations

PSV ratings and operations

converting metric and imperial measurement

performing gas testing

performing a range of numerical calculations including:

volume

quantity

mass

weight

length

pressure

using calculator if required

using estimating skills (e.g. mental arithmetic, visualisation of size and quantity)

basic geometry (e.g. interpreting depth, direction, angles)
